Click once to get enlarged view.According to the WHO - NPCB survey of 1986-89, about 1.5% of India's population is  blind. The sad truth is that many of these can regain vision with proper treatment, if it is made available to them. Although various facilities and centres are available for eye care services, they are under-utilized. One of the stated goals of Gomabai Netralaya is the provision of comprehensive, quality eye care of international standards to all patients irrespective of their socio-economic status.

Free Service at Gomabai Netralaya has been a constant feature since its inception in 1992. Initially, community services were offered to all patients at hospital-based in camps. Since we are offering our services in an area having 70% of rural and tribal population which is largely uneducated and deprived, we are trying to reach them through outdoor camps at their door steps since the year 2000.

The Netralaya has a unique mobile van,
recently built mobile OPD van on a TATA - 1109 bus chassis with a view to extend our services to remote areas. Through this van the screening of the patients will be possible at their door steps. After screening, the patients could be transported to the netralaya for surgery and back to their destination. The van is equipped with all the necessary screening equipments. As such the van is to extend helping hands in ophthalmic care for those who, for various reasons, cannot reach to base hospital for necessary check up /treatment.
